Jorobi Garden Compost Tag 30 May 19.png

A microbe rich, aerobic, fully mature, humified compost, that is highly beneficial for its effects on plant growth, moisture retention, nutrient availability, microbial activity, soil structure and disease suppression.

A ready to use compost for your garden.

Application depends largely upon the plants being grown but as a guide refer the following;

Natives

Around 0.5-1.0kg/m2 under the canopy drip line annually, with a thin layer of mulch on top should be fine. Vegetables and high demand shrubs Up to 5.0kg/m2 at planting followed by 1.0 kg/m2 every 4-6 weeks depending on the stage of growth. Younger plants will have higher requirements than fully mature plants or ready to pick crops. Fruit trees Apply twice per year in autumn and spring at 5.0kg/m2 under the drip line (outer edges of the canopy).

Planting in Pots

The maximum safe level of compost admixture in a potting mix is 50/50 compost to soil or 30/70 compost to soil when being used with a bark based potting mix. When planting in pots 30/30/40 compost, potting mix to soil mixture can be used. Pot plants will benefit from a follow up dressing of a handful of compost per plant, per week watered in until established.

Planting a New Plant in a Garden Bed

In a new garden bed 50/50 compost to soil is generally recommended. Once again this depends on the plant, but no more than 50/50 compost to soil by volume (not weight) followed up by surface dressings as required. An indication of compost dressing being required is if the base leaves look a little pale. Add some compost to the area around the canopy drip line, avoiding direct contact with the stemand water it in well.

It is not absolutely necessary to dig compost in, but it is the best method and the most beneficial, especially if the area is exposed to long periods of direct sunlight. Short periods of sunlight for a few hours a day will have little negative effect. Water the compost in after applying to the garden bed.

Safety - It is important to remember that compost contains live micro-organisms. As a health and safety precaution we recommend to always wear gloves while handling garden products, keeping compost damp and avoid inhalation while in use. Always wash hands after using gardening products.
